Celebration Unity Holders
These holders are traditionally used as part of the marriage ceremony. At the start of the service the bride and groom each light one of the side candles. The marriage ceremony then proceeds and after the bride and groom have been pronounced man and wife each takes a side candle and lights the centre pillar.
The side candles are then extinguished. This symbolizes the 2 becoming 1 and the unity of their life ahead together. A variation of this is that sometimes it is a member of the bride and groom's family that initially lights the 2 side candles, for example their respective mothers. The symbolism being that 2 separate families are joining together.
